Windows vista safe mode will not boot

Thanks for the advice Guys, I finally managed to recover the System after many attempts, I tried restoring to previous known good boots until I found one that worked and then attempted to install updates again, this was not totally successful as the updates then failed, but I persevered and finally got all the updates through, the system seems fine now, But what a hassle!
