On the plus side, the casing is smooth yet matte enough to shrug off fingerprints and is easy to clean. Overall, no unbearable problems with build quality, and again, the TXp looks phenomenal. Sony TXp screen view large image. The display is the place where the TXp shines no pun intended.
There are 9 levels of brightness, and I never go above 6. The lowest setting is about as bright as a piece of paper and is great for dark rooms or just saving battery power. As with all glossy screens, it is quite vulnerable to fingerprints and visible dust. I give mine a gentle wiping-down about once a day with a soft cloth or a cotton sleeve and a good cleaning with iKlear wipes once a month.
LEDs are more power-efficient than cold cathodes, which require some power conversion; this leads to improved battery life. More on that later. This makes them seem louder than the others, especially when watching videos where understanding dialogue is important. In the CPU department, the TXp has an advantage over its predecessors, which had Pentium M processors, in that it has the new, more efficient 65nm architecture in its Core Solo processor. The optical drive is annoying.
Not only is it of lesser build quality as mentioned before, but unlike most optical drives which, when accessed, spin up to full speed and keep spinning at that speed for about a minute or two after the disc stops being accessed, this one does so only a few seconds after the drive stops being accessed. This means that if you stop reading from a disc, even for a few seconds, the drive slows down. When you open the next directory or file, you have to wait for the disc to spin up to full speed again, and then the command is executed.
This process makes no sense, as not only is it a great deal slower, but it requires more power since it takes more energy to start a mass spinning than it does to keep it spinning.
The TX series uses a tiny 1. Also, the 80GB size is quite good, and on par with much larger laptops. However, these hard drives only spin at RPM, while most ultraportables use 2. Also, there have been many reports that, while the 2.
I have not noticed the TXp to be all that slow in loading time, but perhaps users coming from faster rigs would be frustrated. This means that the only way to reach the maximum amount is to replace the other MB stick with a 1GB. Overall, the TXp is quite snappy in my everyday use, which is probably all that a prospective ultraportable consumer needs. It would seem that the 65nm Core architecture has a decent advantage over the Pentium M in this test; the 1.
On the flip side, it appears that the Core Solo has no advantage over the Pentium M in PCMark05, and might even be at a disadvantage due to its lower clockspeed. Take that as you will, but remember that benchmarks sometimes have little bearing on real-life applications. Enough said. But it will definitely be able to handle anything 2D; StarCraft ho! The TX series deals with heat quite well. It could just be my room conditions. Phone Support — We are here to take calls in English and Spanish!

Test the power adapter first. Make sure the laptop is getting power from the wall. I have barely used it and left it in pristine condition. If I move the top of the laptop toward me, sometimes the image comes back to normal. If I move it backward, then the image freezes and goes white again. External monitor works fine. I opened the top and bottom of the laptop, and checked the connection on both sides, it seems fine.
Is it possible that the cable is getting squished in the hinge.. Lately I have been using the laptop without the LCD bezel, and I removed the left speaker to give the cable more breathing room. I think this is ridiculous! Have you ever seen something like this? Your description sounds like a problem with the LCD screen. Apparently there is a bad solder joint somewhere on the LCD controller and it fails intermittently. It depends on what kind of noise you have.

Any one to help?? Well ……. I guess that depends on the size of your lawn. But yeah, thanks guys. I can take care of my lawn myself, but a couple of beers sounds great. It is fantastic and hope it will remain up to date. It saves alot of money to those who wants to do the job own their own. Tried your guide for VGN-N but there still seems to be something holding the keyboard as I am unable to release the 5 tabs.
So the trick is to keep prising the keyboard at the end where the 3 screws were and it will eventually unstick. This is Khondker from Bangladesh.
It was working fine for 4 months. But now a problem has appeared. The problem is — When I switch on or power my laptop. It starts. The power indicator light remains green. But my Lcd screen appears black. I reinstalled my system, but no progress. At the time of booting, my screen shows light for 1 second, after that it remains black.

PS The laptop was not bought from Bulgaria there is no guarantee! Thank you in advance! I believe all Sony laptops sold with at least 1 year warranty. There must be some kind of warranty even in Bulgaria.
Have you tried calling the official service center? It worked perfectly fot 2 weeks, and then vertical red stripes appeared on the screen. My local technician said it was impossible to repair: something to do with a tfs? Searching on the internet, I found that there is a recurrent grapic card problem on vaio fz series.
Is it possible to fix this problem? I have looked all over for problems, and apparently Vaios have a lot of problems related to the trackpad. Maybe the trackpad simply disabled? Also take a look at the trackpad software installed on your laptop.
The problem is that when I power up with or without battery the screen displays Vaio logo momentarily and ever so quickly fades away. I cannot even get output to an external monitor to view bios or the os. Take a closer look at the laptop screen after it fades away.
Can you see a very faint image? If yes, try replacing the inverter board. I am only abel to see something if I set ON but the BIOS come out 2 times and all strange letters while in the external monitor it is showed perfect.
Thanks for this interesting page. I need to change the keyboard and I need instructions on how to do this. I would, however, prefer a few more words about the difficulty of particular tasks. I would really appreciate some guidance. The screen backlight still works, it means the inverter board works properly. Does it look something like this? This is LCD screen failure. My keyboard is nonfunctional after spoiling some water across it:. Does anyone know of a quick fix??
When you say the screen goes blank, does it mean the backlight still there but there is no image? Test your laptop with an external monitor. Can you get image on the external monitor? Use an external USB mouse. Right click on the touchpad and uninstall it. Restart the laptop and let it re-detect the touchpad.

Although the laptop is old, whenever I go to my mothers house I still use it, doing so now ubuntu and xp. The laptop currently has 1. So my question if someone can help me is, is it hard to upgrade all the hardware inside and keep at least the screen?
Laptops are not very upgradeable. There are not many parts you can upgrade, except memory, hard drive and in some cases CPU. This requires OS reinstall or cloning. Hi , fantastic job, great selection of manuals, I am looking for 1 in specific, Sony Vaio VGN Z11, if anyone can help with this, please send me a link.
Hi , fantastic job, great selection of manuals, I am looking for 1 in specific, Sony Vaio PCG — KM, if anyone can help with this, please send me a link. Both the keyboard and touchpad have stopped working, although F2 and F8 work when booting. New hard drive fitted with fresh install, this did not help. Not a very common model apparently. Might as well do an overhaul if I can get the relevant manual.
Look for two screws securing the DVD drive on the bottom of the laptop. If you not sure which screws securing the DVD drive, try removing all screws located under the drive. After that try pulling the DVD drive from the laptop. Before you buy a new screen, you should check connection between the video cable and LCD screen. Hello again, Also I want add that my laptop is 4 years old. Hope someone can help me.
To: peejay I just took apart my Vaio, there is a line running from where the battery plugs in to where my biometric scanner and wireless toggle is located, perhaps it is broken? The Palm top screws have come out and the manual says requirement of B3 screws. Where do I buy them from. I checked with a service center close to my place but they seem to be more focused on how much they can fleece me. They suggested the computer would need repair in addition to cleaning, as soon as I mentioned red ants.
Plus I cannot visit that city for another three weeks. Any suggestion as to what I can do to prevent further damage till I can get to a service center? I live in a not so well-connected town in India. Can anyone help me out here?
I thought it was overheated but did not want to include more. When you make a power cable to the shutter release button lamp flashes. Do you have any idea where is the problem. I have a Sony Vaio pcgL, also known as a vpcecx. I was dumb and took it on a camping trip over a very rough road. It did not like that. Now it GPFs regularly. A memory diagnostic did not turn up anything with the RAM. I want to disassemble it to see if there is something that jarred loose, etc.
I am looking for a guide to disassemble the body of the sucker. It is not at all obvious. Even a guide to replacing the keyboard would be a help, as that would get me into the case. There are no obvious tabs, screws, etc. Any help appreciated. I purchased a new plastic for the bottom and would feel much better about the repair if I had a manual. Thanks, Mike. Can you test your laptop with an external monitor? If external video works fine and the problem appears only on the laptop screen, it could be one of the following: 1.
Bad connection between the video cable and LCD screen or motherboard. Reseating connections might help. LCD screen failure. Bad video cable. It just happened to me that today morning i folder my laptop in normal way without shut down just like sleep mode.
I usually do this from past 1 year or so.
